Mosquito Control Pilot/Mechanic*/Supervisor

The City of New Orleans is seeking a motivated and talented individual who enjoys working in a friendly
progressive workplace. The City of New Orleans Mosquito and Termite Control Board is a 45-year-old
operation with 33 full-time employees and 12 summer interns. Area-wide, the City of New Orleans (=Orleans
Parish) has the smallest geographic area of Louisiana’s 64 parishes (=counties). The population is around
254,000.

The Aviation Program has one Britten-Norman Islander (BN-2A) spray aircraft. The duties and responsibilities
of this person include piloting the airplane for spray operations, surveillance, pre and post flight checks and
compliance with applicable FAA regulations and directives. This person conducts spray operations as
instructed by the Director or designee and provides routine maintenance on the aircraft and spray system.
The person in this position would also have the responsibility to coordinate the program’s rolling fleet. This is
a “hands off” coordinating and record keeping function.


He or she must be a graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable graduate equivalency
diploma and meet the following requirements: 1,500 hrs. total flight time; 1,000 hrs. pilot in command (PIC);
1,000 hours multi-engine, PIC; 100 hrs. of mosquito control spraying or equivalent low level operations as PIC
(possibly waived while in training). Flight qualifications must be acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier. The
applicant must have the following current licenses/certifications at the time of employment: FAA  commercial
instrumented rated pilot; FAA Airframe & Power (exceptional candidate w/o A&P would be considered but will
be required to obtain an A&P license on the job); FAA medical certificate. He or she must have the following
current certifications at the time of employment or be able to secure these certifications within ninety (90) days
of employment: FAA Agricultural Applicator certification (LA Dept. of Ag. & Forestry, 11-Aerial Applicator). This
person cannot be chemically sensitive or have a history of respiratory problems and must have a Louisiana
driver’s license at the time of permanent employment. Excellent benefits include: defined benefits retirement
